Lafayette’s first due area includes a significant amount of critical infrastructure. Upper Merion Township is home to the nation’s largest shopping mall as measured in square footage, as well as the Valley Forge National Park, a major tourist destination and historical site. Two major U.S. interstate highways transverse our first-due territory including the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276) , with an average daily volume of 400,000 vehicles, and the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) with an average daily volume of 105,000 vehicles, as well as three regional highways (Routes 23, 202 and 422) with a combined average daily volume of 225,000 vehicles (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation).
